Responding to June 2022's cancer waiting times data for England, Dr Jeanette Dickson, President of The Royal College of Radiologists, said:
“Today’s cancer waiting times data is disappointing. The longer patients wait for a diagnosis or treatment, the less their chance of survival.
“June’s figures show that cancer waiting times aren't improving fast enough. It’s imperative that we have a fully-funded workforce plan in order to tackle the backlog, and future-proof our NHS.
“To diagnose early, and give patients a better chance of survival, the incoming Government must reverse any proposed cuts to diagnostics to fund NHS pay increases. Doctors deserve better, but this should not put patient pathways and quicker diagnosis to treatment times at risk.”
