Medical Training Initiative (MTI)

The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) will close to new applications from 31 March 2026 following a decision by NHS England. 

We recognise that this may be disappointing for doctors who were hoping to apply to the scheme in the future and that the short notice of this change may be challenging. The timing of this decision has been determined by NHS England and is outside of our control. 

Doctors who are currently participating in the scheme will not be affected by this change. They will continue to receive the full educational, training and pastoral support associated with MTI until the end of their placements. 

Applications that are already in progress will continue to be processed during a grace period, which runs until 30 June 2026, with the requirement that the application must be fully completed and a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued before this date. Where these applications are successful, doctors will still be able to take up their posts and participate in the scheme as intended.  

We remain committed to supporting all doctors currently on the scheme and will ensure they are able to complete their posts as planned.
