College appoints new MDMB and Treasurer
We’re delighted to announce that Professor Owen Arthurs will join the RCR Officers’ team as Medical Director, Membership and Business (MDMB), and serve on the Trustee Board. Mr Sri Athreya will also join the Trustee Board as Treasurer. Both appointments will take effect from 1 September 2026.
Professor Arthurs will lead the College’s work on membership, professional standards and business priorities, while Mr Athreya will oversee financial strategy and governance to support the College’s long-term sustainability.
Professor Arthurs is a consultant paediatric radiologist at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital (GOSH) and Professor of Radiology at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. He trained in paediatrics and radiology in Cambridge, Paris and London before being appointed to GOSH in 2012. He is currently Secretary of the European Society for Paediatric Radiology and has been a board member since 2016.
He has played an active role at the RCR for over 10 years, including as the 2016 Roentgen Professor, iRefer paediatric editor, and more recently Chair of the Global AI Conference Programme Committee.
Professor Arthurs said: “I’m delighted to take on the MDMB role. I look forward to helping shape how the College best supports and advocates for both radiologists and oncologists, at a time when our Fellows and members are having to adapt to a rapidly evolving environment.”
Mr Athreya is a governance, risk and finance leader with more than 25 years' experience in complex, heavily regulated institutions. As a chief risk and compliance officer in financial services, he has guided boards and leadership teams through capital crises, regulatory turning points and strategic transformations. As a governor of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, he supports the trust's ambitions for the highest-quality precision cancer care.
Mr Athreya said: “Rising cancer rates worldwide mean institutions can no longer afford to be reactive; they have to be proactive. This is where, as treasurer, disciplined financial stewardship can have the greatest impact.”
Dr Stephen Harden, RCR President, said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Arthurs as Medical Director, Membership and Business (MDMB), and Mr Athreya as Treasurer.
“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Dr Qaiser Malik and Mr Anthony Carey, the outgoing MDMB and Treasurer respectively, for their hard work, significant contributions and commitment during their time on the board.”
