IR(ME)R Implications for clinical practice in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine, second edition published

The RCR is pleased to announce the publication of IR(ME)R: Implications for clinical practice in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine, second edition.

This updated guidance provides practical support for services implementing the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and reflects the 2024 amendments. It is designed to help teams interpret the Regulations in day-to-day clinical practice, with updated content reflecting changes in service delivery, governance arrangements and developments in technology.

The guidance is intended for all staff groups involved in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine services, including those working across referrer, practitioner, operator and employer responsibilities. It includes practical scenarios to support local interpretation and implementation.

This second edition has been jointly produced by a working party with representatives from the Royal College of Radiologists, British Institute of Radiology, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, Medical Exposures Group, UK Health Security Agency, and the Society and College of Radiographers.
