Five reasons to attend our first-ever Global Congress

Thursday 1 September 2022

When it comes to organising an event for the first time, there can sometimes be a bit of trepidation, but with our first-ever Global Congress in Dubai, I know we have the makings of what promises to be a truly memorable event.

As the title of this blog alludes to, there are quite a few reasons why I believe you should attend, and if you care to indulge me, I want to explain how you – our Fellows and members – will be able to improve and expand your clinical skills, enrich your professional network and leave feeling inspired and educated.

Here’s five reasons why you should join us at our three-day Global Congress from 29 September, either in-person or virtually.

World class speakers
I always feel the benchmark of a successful event can be linked to the quality of its speakers and we have a fantastic line-up in Dubai. In total, we’ll have over 70 speakers, led by our new President Dr Katharine Halliday hosting an opening ceremony and joined by a number of renowned clinical experts including Module Leads, Professor Mark Callaway and Professor Andrea Rockall, Keynote Speaker, Professor Tarek Yousry and Couch Kerley Lecturer, Dr Sami Khan.

Wide range of workshops and scientific sessions
A lot of planning has gone on behind the scenes and part of this process was setting a challenge to the Scientific Committee to create an experience to match our ambitious theme: Radiology driving innovation. The end result is a scientific programme covering 12 modules, across five scientific streams, and optional interactive workshops taking place throughout each day on areas such as Head and Neck, Interventional Radiology, Musculoskeletal, Paediatric Imaging and much more. And, for the first time, we are also offering wrap-around RCR Learning events, in the form of a two-day pre-congress MRI Course and a one-day post-congress Road to FRCR course.

Cross-cultural collaboration
This event has been a long time in the making and it’s come together as the culmination of a truly cross-cultural collaboration. Between the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Pan-Arab Association of Radiological Societies (PAARS), each organisation has contributed its time and talents towards making sure we develop an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Build your professional network
One of the joys of hosting an event outside the UK is the unique opportunity it presents for our globe-spanning membership to meet. Our congress really will be a unique opportunity for you to engage with senior radiologists from various parts of the world. As an added bonus, you’ll also be awarded CPD points by both the RCR and DHA for attendance at lectures, presentations and workshops.

A global setting
As a global organisation, the RCR believes it’s important to both participate and host events in different countries and we’ve chosen a landmark destination for our congress at InterContinental Dubai Festival City – I promise you’ll want to check out those skyline views! We understand not everyone will be able to travel to Dubai, which is why you’ll also be able to attend virtually and access live broadcasts, so you won’t miss out.

Now, I did say we have a lot packed in across those three days. We’ll be welcoming over 650 delegates and with just under a month to go, I hope to see many of you in Dubai (or joining virtually) soon.
