First FRCR Examination in Clinical Radiology: March 2021 sitting update

Monday 1 March 2021

In light of the current situation, we have taken the decision to cancel the First FRCR examination (Anatomy and Physics modules) planned to be held in March 2021. We know that many ST1 trainees have been or are likely to be redeployed, as well as knowing that trainees and trainers are under intense pressure at the moment and therefore, that preparation and training has been disrupted. The situation in the country and the NHS remains precarious and is likely to do so for some weeks yet. We have had a clear message from trainees and trainers requesting an early decision with this matter. We know that some trainees will be disappointed by this decision but hope that taking this step now will reduce levels of anxiety and stress, and allow a better plan for the next few months. The March 2021 sitting will not open for applications for the reasons stated above.

The planned sittings in June and September 2021 will go ahead. A further sitting will now be held on 18 and 19 November 2021 to ensure any trainees needing three attempts can be accommodated in this calendar year. We are also investigating the potential for these examinations to move to a 'remote proctoring' model of delivery which is not dependent on examination venues, but no final decision has yet been made on this.
