Role description

The Faculty of Clinical Oncology is seeking to appoint a Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Adviser to serve on the CO PSSB. This person will assist with all aspects of the Board's work but will have particular responsibility for providing advice and input on radiotherapy quality and safety matters as they relate to the post-CCT activities of the Faculty.

These will include:

  • radiotherapy contouring and peer review
  • the safe delivery of radiotherapy services in the UK in multi-professional teams
  • access, quality, standards and any other factors that may have an impact on radiotherapy delivery in the UK.

The postholder will also provide support across the wider CO Faculty - including to CO Officers and CO Heads of Service - on matters relating to radiotherapy quality and safety. This will include representing the RCR on Public Health England's Patient Safety in Radiotherapy group and advising other multi-professional guidance development groups, as required.

Experience and competencies

The Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Adviser will have a proven record of delivering high-quality radiotherapy services, and in supporting and influencing effective service delivery at local or national level. The person appointed as Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Adviser will have a multi-professional network of contacts in the field of radiotherapy and links with key national bodies involved in the oversight and delivery of radiotherapy services in the UK.

Time commitment

Appointed members are expected to attend the three meetings of the CO PSSB held each year, to contribute to discussions as appropriate and to provide a regular update report on radiotherapy quality and safety issues. Two out of three meetings are virtual, with one being in-person at the Royal College of Radiologists in London. The time commitment for each meeting would be 2 hours plus travelling time and the time required for reading of papers in preparation.

The Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Adviser may have additional commitments - for example leading on or contributing to specific programmes or pieces of work for the PSSB.

Selection process

Applicants are asked to submit a short CV and a brief statement describing their interest, experience and expertise in the field of radiotherapy quality and safety to the Governance Assistant by 5pm on Monday 15 July 2024.

Applications will be considered by a panel consisting of the Medical Director for Professional Practice, Clinical Oncology, and the Clinical Oncology Vice-President.

The first meeting of the CO PSSB that the post-holder will attend will take place in-person on Friday 1 November 2024. If you are applying for the above position, please reserve this date in your diary.
