What is the QSI Quality Mark
The QSI Quality Mark is a nationally recognised mark of quality for UK imaging services awarded by the Royal College of Radiologists and the College of Radiographers. It shows that a service meets the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) and is committed to providing safe, effective and patient‑focused care.
To achieve the Quality Mark, a service is assessed against the QSI standards by a professional review team under the leadership of a Quality Review Partner.
The QSI Quality Mark Review
Members of the QSI Hub can apply for the QSI Quality Mark after working with the QSI Team and when they are confident that they meet all the applicable standards.
The QSI Quality Mark Review is a formal, peer‑led assessment of an imaging service against the QSI standards.
Experienced quality reviewers examine evidence and work with the service to understand how the standards are met in practice with the aim of being able to award the QSI Quality Mark.
The review runs on a three-year cycle, with support provided throughout by an appointed Quality Review Partner.
Year 1 – Full review
In the first year, the service is reviewed against all relevant standards. This includes a detailed review of evidence and an on site visit.
Years 2 & 3 – Reconfirmation reviews
In years two and three, the focus is on continued compliance and ongoing improvement. Targeted reviews look at selected standards and areas of challenge or shared learning across services. These reviews are mainly carried out remotely, with a short meeting where needed.
Time, cost and resources required
The cost of a QSI Quality Mark review is agreed with each participating service individually. It reflects factors such as the size of the service, the imaging modalities included and the size of the review team required.
