Information for patients and carers
What is QSI and why does it matter to patients?
The Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) is a national quality mark. It shows that an imaging service is committed to providing safe, well‑run and high‑quality care for patients.
QSI puts patients at the centre of everything an imaging service does. It focuses on safety, clear communication and a positive experience before, during and after your appointment. Services taking part in QSI regularly review how they work and look for ways to improve the care they provide.
You may not know whether the service you attend is part of QSI, but you should notice the difference. This can include clear and accessible information, clean and comfortable facilities, and strong systems in place to help keep patients safe.
How QSI helps improve the patient experience
Helps services take a more structured approach to reviewing the patient experience.
Encourages clearer ways to gather feedback and use it to make practical improvements.
Supports services to show patients what has improved and why.
Prompts teams to consider the full patient journey—from booking and arrival to waiting areas, signage and results.
Helps services plan for busy periods or disruption (for example, building works).
Encourages improvements to patient flow through the service.
Supports clearer communication with patients and carers.
Prompts a broader focus on patient needs, including reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities, learning disabilities, anxiety, or communication needs.
Encourages services to address language barriers and provide accessible information.
Helps more patients understand what will happen and feel supported throughout their appointment.
