Clinical Radiology Professional Practice Board: Appointed members vacancies
Role description
The Clinical Radiology (CR) Professional Practice Board (PPB) advises on and delivers the relevant strategic priorities of the Faculty Leadership Team by being the authoritative voice of good practice in Clinical Radiology. The Terms of Reference and membership of the Board can be found here.
Membership of the CR PPB includes up to four appointed members with interest, experience and expertise relevant to the CR PPB’s four priorities for standards development:
- workforce – addressing capacity and demand management; productivity; job planning; skill mix and training requirements; wellbeing, support and retention initiatives (including - but not limited to - mentoring and outreach programmes); the role of multi-disciplinary teams and overseeing the RCR's Continuing Professional Development scheme (including support for appraisal and revalidation).
- service delivery and development – covering general diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology techniques, including adapting to technological, scientific and/or therapeutic advancements (addressing Artificial Intelligence where relevant and appropriate).
- specialist clinical approaches – relating to a particular anatomical category, service delivery setting or client group.
- safety and quality – including compliance with legal requirements, timely replacement of equipment, and maintaining the policy on and process for invited service reviews.
Eligibility and terms of office
Appointed members must be Fellows of the Faculty of Clinical Radiology, resident in the UK and in active clinical practice at the time of their appointment. Appointed members serve for terms of three years. Their appointment may be extended for one further term of up to three years by exception and by the agreement of the Chair.
CR PPB members are bound by the Code of Conduct and will be required to declare any conflicts in accordance with the conflicts of interest policy.
Skills and experience
In order to fulfil this role the individual will be expected to demonstrate:
- knowledge and understanding of current issues and developments facing clinical radiologists;
- experience and/or an interest in developing guidance and standards (or their equivalent), to inform and improve practice;
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the capacity to support and influence others;
- the ability to develop and build effective professional relationships; liaise with other stakeholders and network with other interested individuals.
Time commitment
Appointed members are expected to attend the three meetings of the CR PPB held each year and contribute to discussions as appropriate. Generally, one meeting will be in person in the RCR, London and the other two will be held remotely.
The time commitment for each meeting is 2 hours plus the time required for reading of papers and preparation. Travelling time will also need to be factored in for in-person meetings. Please note that travel expenses will be covered by the RCR in accordance with our travel and expenses policy.
Appointed members may have additional commitments, such as leading or contributing on specific programmes or pieces of work for the PPB.

Applications will be ranked against the person specification by a selection panel comprising the CR Medical Director Professional Practice, the CR Vice-President and one elected member of Council and/or CR Faculty Board. It will be ensured that no member of the selection panel has a conflict of interest with any applicant. It is not anticipated that it will be necessary to hold interviews.
The successful applicant will be asked to complete and return a declaration of interests form.
