Declaring and registering conflicts of interest: policy and procedures

The College endeavours to meet and maintain expected standards and processes for good governance and has had arrangements in place for many years to record and publish the interests registered by trustees of the College as a Charity registered with the Charity Commission. In 2024 the arrangements were reviewed and will be subject to periodic review.

Board and committee members

The College’s policy on managing conflicts of interest for board and committee members requires all board and committee members to declare any interest or loyalty they might have or appear to have.

The purpose of the Register of Interests is to place on record actual or potential conflicts of interest. Trustee board members are required to update their entries throughout the period of office and are reminded annually to do so. In addition, board and committee members are required to declare any relevant interests in the course of College business.

Registers of interests are held for each board or committee. This is a standing item of business taken at the commencement of all board, committee or sub-committee meetings and is recorded in the minutes of such meetings.

Declaring interests at College boards and committees

If this arises members are expected to speak to the chair prior to the meeting in order to agree how best to proceed.
