Clinical Oncologist member of The Radiotherapy Board Environmental Sustainability (RTBES) Working Group
Why this role exists
It is recognised globally that there is an urgent need for action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and find more sustainable ways of working and living, to limit the effects of climate change. Action is needed as much in healthcare as in other sectors of the economy and society, and the NHS is itself a significant contributor to carbon emissions. It is also the healthcare sector that will bear the brunt of the health issues posed by climate change.
The Radiotherapy Board recognises the environmental impact of radiotherapy treatment pathways and is keen to address this by exploring ways to reduce their carbon footprint and to address other environmental issues such as waste minimisation and adopting best environmental practices.

Commitment and conditions
Contributors at the RCR play a vital role in supporting the College’s initiatives and driving its progress. Although our Contributor positions are undertaken on a voluntary basis, each role has optimal impact when Contributors dedicate sufficient time to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them.
The Working Group meets online every two months, with additional meetings arranged if or when specific tasks arise. There is also some email correspondence between meetings. Members will be asked to contribute ideas and suggestions for the Group’s work programme and to comment on, and contribute to, initiatives as they take shape – including assessment of applications through the gRTF. The Working Group member will be expected to serve for a period of up to three years from the date of appointment.
How to apply
If you are interested in applying for this position, please submit a short CV and cover letter to [email protected] by 5pm on Friday 5 June.

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
