Professor Amaka Offiah elected as Vice-President, Clinical Radiology

We’re delighted to announce that Professor Amaka Offiah has been elected as the incoming Vice-President, Clinical Radiology. Professor Offiah will officially start from 1 September 2025, when she will take over from the current Vice-President, Clinical Radiology, Dr Stephen Harden.

Professor Offiah will head the Clinical Radiology Faculty for a three-year term and ensure that it is positioned to lead the specialty across the UK and overseas.

Professor Offiah said: “I am extremely grateful for the trust shown in electing me to the responsible role of Vice-President, Clinical Radiology, and at such a challenging time. It is a challenge I intend to face head-on, but not alone.

“I look forward to working with Dr Stephen Harden, Dr Nicky Thorp, other RCR Officers and staff and of course with RCR Fellows and members, so that together we can build on a shared vision to advance our specialties in the UK and internationally for the benefit of our patients. I will endeavour to serve with empathy, courage and transparency.”

Professor Offiah is Professor of Paediatric Musculoskeletal Imaging at the University of Sheffield and an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Her medical training was at Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, including an intercalated BSc in Physiology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Professor Offiah trained as a radiologist in Sheffield, before moving to Great Ormond Street Hospital/Institute of Child Health, UCL, where she obtained a PhD and developed her academic interest in inflicted injury.

Professor Offiah was the first paediatric radiologist/first female RCR Roentgen Professor and is the first female Managing Editor of the journal Pediatric Radiology. She chairs the Skeletal Dysplasia Group for Teaching and Research and the ESPR Child Abuse Taskforce.

Dr Stephen Harden, Vice-President, Clinical Radiology, said: “I am delighted that Professor Amaka Offiah has been elected as the next RCR Vice-President for Clinical Radiology. Amaka brings considerable experience in clinical and academic leadership at national and international level and will be a strong advocate for our Fellows and members and our profession. I very much look forward to working with her in the RCR leadership team.”
