Membership Survey 2025
74% are proud to be part of the RCR
Over two thirds of Fellows and members are proud to be part of the RCR and feel that the profession is stronger through the work that we do. 56% expressed an interest in becoming more involved in College activities.
We are most highly regarded for:
- the standards we set for our professions.
- our clinical publications.
- our training, events and courses.
- our online learning platform, RCR Learn.
"The RCR provides an appropriately high standard of practice, gives good professional training and support, and represents Radiologists' and Clinical Oncologists' opinions well to Government and media."
UK FellowOncology
Improvements since 2023
You told us that we were much more visible in advocating for the specialties to key decision makers. You shared that we were better at providing support throughout your careers with activities such as mentoring. You also recognised our work in shaping the safe and effective deployment of AI.
"The RCR has worked hard to be more visible in press and explain challenges in radiology/oncology to the general public"
UK FellowRadiology
Where we can support you better
Overall, satisfaction fell slightly, which is something we take very seriously. We want our Fellows and members to feel supported by us, and the detail provided in the survey is helping us identify areas where we can do more.
You expressed your disappointment in the new CPD Journal following recent changes, and we received feedback that it's not always easy to find what you need on the website. For residents, many of you told us it was a challenge to get exam slots, and some were unsure of what you get for your fees.
Whilst you said we are more visible in our advocacy work, almost half of you feel that we don't understand the priorities of our members. We also learned that, whilst you want us to lead on the safe and effective deployment of AI, it is vital that we recognise and advocate for the critical roles of radiologists and oncologists.
Many of you said we could connect and engage with you more, and felt there was less of a sense of community than before.
"The previously very good CPD spreadsheet has been discontinued, and the replacement form now seems to have stopped working"
UK FellowRadiology
Take a look below to see what changes we’ve been making:
We recognise that the interim version of the CPD Journal did not work as intended and that this caused frustration for some members. The Journal was relaunched in March 2026, having been tested and refined with a pool of members who offered their time to ensure it is fit for purpose moving forward.
The CPD Journal has moved into MyRCR, the member portal, so it's easier to find and use, and makes managing CPD records simpler and more reliable. Fellows and members can now:
- View entries in date order
- Filter entries by time period (for example, by an appraisal year)
- Export records to Excel or PDF, including CPD credits.
- See CPD credits from RCR learning modules you have completed and eligible RCR events you have attended, added automatically to your journal.
For a small number of Fellows and members, some CPD data didn’t automatically transfer to the new system, however please reassured that your records remain completely safe and accessible, and you can retrieve using the relevant export links for credits, descriptions and reflections, and certificate PDFs. Please contact the team if you are experiencing any issues and they will be happy to assist.
- You highlighted concerns about ongoing workforce pressures. We remain committed to championing the vital contribution of radiologists and oncologists through our campaigning work, and in recent months we have acted on this by lobbying against recruitment freezes in CR and CO.
- Our contribution to the National Cancer Plan sees us leading on the reform of multidisciplinary team meetings (which are not currently fit for purpose), to protect your time and improve outcomes for patients.
- We will continue to campaign for increased training posts across the board.
- For Fellows and members working in the devolved nations, we’ve strengthened our relationships with governments and have met with health ministers and spokespeople in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is evidenced by a growing number of parliamentary questions raised on our behalf, including recent MSP scrutiny of Scotland’s radiology waiting-time targets and investment plans, which we continue to monitor closely.
- Our interventional radiologists felt they could be supported more, so we have ensured that interventional radiology is an area of focus for our policy team this year. We held our first IR-led workshop in February 2026 where a range of topics were discussed, from training opportunities to bed space. This helped clearly define and strengthen our work in this area and we aim to continue championing and raising the profile of interventional radiologists in the coming year.
- In 2024, we acted on Physician Associates, calling on the GMC to prioritise training for residents, and shared our views with the Leng Review. Now that the Review has been published we've maintained our position to be clear that there is no role for PAs within Diagnostic Radiology, and continue to play an active role in resolving these issues through defining a limited and tightly-defined scope of practice within interventional radiology and clinical oncology.
Although feedback has improved since our 2023 survey, it remains essential that our Residents feel fully supported by the College. We are committed to supporting you by:
- Investing further into online learning content via 'RCR Learn' which is 95% free to members (see 'improving communication and engagement' section below). We have improved search functionality, introducing 'fuzzy search' for clearer results, and categorisation of our online learning resources.
- Improving how we deliver candidate feedback following exams, by sharing comparison results between performance and a set standard to help candidates improve performance in the future.
- Supporting the Radiology Resident Doctors Forum in running a series of free webinars to support residents in their future career choices. We also work with subject matter experts who are leaders in their field, to run national lectures weekly aimed at levels ST1-3 which can be accessed by members for free.
- Continuing to grow and expand our mentoring scheme to further support people at different stages of their career.
- Advocating for protected training time: We have highlighted the importance of protecting training opportunities for our resident doctors, by producing our 'Leaders of the Future' document, outlining the key principles of training for our specialties, as defined by our members.
- Recognising that the E-Portfolio can be a little frustrating at times, so we will continue to actively seek feedback on the e-portfolio and to work with heads of training, and the resident forums to implement improvements. In the meantime, we have a weekly drop-in clinic on MS Teams where users can dial in for support.
- A dedicated Resident newsletter was launched in late 2025, distributed monthly to signpost and showcase resources that support your training.
Expanding exam capacity is a priority for us this year following the CR2B reforms. We recruited a significant number of new examiners last year, and they are now being trained to begin examining from summer 2026.
We know that AI regulation is an area you want leadership and support on, as we understand it presents both an opportunity and a risk. That's why we've published a new position statement on AI regulation, and we are actively involved in the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare.
After consulting with members, we have developed an AI strategy, which will cover the areas that you asked for support on:
-
Targeted policy asks of government to ensure AI supports the expertise of radiology and oncology professionals whilst maintaining a firmly human-centred approach at its core.
-
Publishing clear guidance on monitoring of AI after deployment for safe practice.
-
Broadening the AI registry to include tools for clinical oncology, scanners and admin processes.
-
Expanding our AI learning portfolio to ensure all members and Fellows are equipped with the latest knowledge to inform their roles.
-
Our 2026 AI conference has evolved to include more oncology content, implementation case studies and support for entry level professionals and residents.
More than half of Fellows and members wish to be more involved with the College, so we are committed to continually improving how we communicate and engage with you moving forward, ensuring our website and communications channels are clear, accessible and signpost you to the content and opportunities you're looking for.
Here's how we'll be addressing this in the coming year:
- Making improvements to the website through new features such as "fuzzy search" meaning you don't have the get the search term exactly right to find what you need.
- 'Top searches' will also be launched shortly which creates a shortcut to popular pages such as exams and learning.
- Providing clearer signposting to online journals to improve visibility and access.
- Providing clearer promotion to available contributor opportunities and sharing insights into what it’s like to work with the College, whether as an examiner, a committee member, a journal editor or member of the Council.
- Providing clearer guidance on maximising membership benefits. A new member newsletter will signpost resources, journals, opportunities and useful College info so that you’re always up to date on the services that the College provides.
- Sharing more member stories and real-world perspectives across Wave, social media and the website.
- We are investing more online learning content into ‘RCR Learn’, our online learning platform, to improve exam readiness and ongoing CPD through more regular free webinars, lectures and role specific sessions, all of which is free to members. This will be released regularly over the next two years, with improved promotion so you’ll be in the know about the latest updates.
- Improved support for Portfolio Pathway applicants and their departments. Regular webinars for portfolio pathway applicants and their departments is already underway.
