Join the Equivalence Committee
The Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR) is a key route to the Specialist Register. The Equivalence Committee's purpose is to assess applications submitted through this pathway and make recommendations to the GMC regarding individual applications for Specialist Registration in radiology or oncology.
Are you passionate about upholding high professional standards and shaping the future of your specialty? We're looking for committed consultants to join our Equivalence committee and help ensure that departments are led by individuals with the right knowledge, skills and experience.
What's involved?
As an Equivalence Committee member you'll review applications submitted through the Portfolio Pathway in either radiology or oncology. Your role will be to evaluate whether applicants have the relevant knowledge, skills and experience (KSE) for entry to the Specialist Register, or outline what more needs to be done to meet the required standard. Equivalence Committee members receive support from the Workforce Development and Training team who provide guidance and administrative support to complete the recommendations.
Role description and responsibilities
- Review and assess Portfolio Pathway applications in clinical radiology/oncology.
- Evaluate whether applicants meet the necessary KSE criteria for specialist registration.
- Provide clear, fair and evidence-based feedback or recommendations for applicants.
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to discussions on applications.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the College's values and Code of Conduct
Time commitment
Committee members are expected to review one application per month on average which is equivalent to 2 hours per application. Full induction and training will be provided for the role.

Eligibility
All board and committee members are bound by the Code of Conduct and are expected to demonstrate adherence to the College values and strategy.

- Member of the RCR.
- In good standing with the College
- Currently practising in radiology or oncology in the NHS.
- Must be GMC registered with a license to practice and be listed on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Evidence of equality and diversity training undertaken in the last two years.

Applications will be assessed by the Chairs of the CR/CO Equivalence Committees and the Medical Director Education and Training of the Faculty. It will be ensured that no member of the selection panel has a conflict of interest with any applicant. It is not anticipated that it will be necessary to hold interviews.
