Clinical Oncology Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee Appointed Member
The Clinical Oncology (CO) Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee (AIAC) provides advice and guidance to the RCR on AI matters relevant to Clinical Oncology, in support of the RCR’s strategic priorities. With the agreement of the CO Faculty Leadership Team, the CO AIAC may also establish time-limited working groups to carry out short-term projects. The terms of reference and membership of the CO AIAC can be found on the RCR website.
Membership of the CO AIAC includes up to twelve appointed members. Appointed members will advise the RCR on:
- Scope - those areas of work in AI relevant to Clinical Oncology that the RCR should undertake and those it should only advise on
- Implementation - how best to deliver AI work that the RCR undertakes itself
- Funding - how to ensure this work can be as self-funding as possible
- Collaboration – identification of those external organisations, people, initiatives, funding, AI technology advances and opportunities relevant to Clinical Oncology with which the RCR should collaborate
- Policy – areas of AI in Clinical Oncology on which the RCR should develop a policy position
- Influencing - how best to influence the national AI agenda in Clinical Oncology to ensure the views of the RCR are heard
- Any other areas at the request of the CO Faculty Leadership Team
Eligibility and terms of office
To serve as an appointed member of the CO AIAC, a member or Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Oncology must be in good standing with the College, be resident in the UK, and in active clinical practice at the time of their application and appointment. Appointed members serve for a period of up to three years.
CO AIAC members are bound by the Code of Conduct and will be required to declare any conflicts at the beginning of every meeting in accordance with the conflicts of interest policy.
Skills and experience
To fulfil this role, the individual will be expected to demonstrate:
- knowledge and understanding of current AI-related issues and developments facing clinical oncologists
- knowledge of the current AI landscape in oncology and what might be on the horizon
- experience and/or an interest in developing AI-related guidance, to inform and improve practice
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the capacity to support and influence others
- the ability to develop and build effective professional relationships, liaise with other stakeholders and network with other interested individuals
Time commitment
Appointed members are expected to attend the three meetings of the CO AIAC held each year (one in person and the other two by video/teleconference) and contribute to discussions as appropriate. The time commitment for each meeting would be up to 3 hours including the time required for reading of papers and preparation. In addition, appointed members may have additional commitments, for example leading or contributing on specific programmes or pieces of work for the CO AIAC.

Applications will be ranked against the person specification by a selection panel comprising the CO Vice-President, the CO AI Lead Advisor, and a member of the AI team. It will be ensured that no member of the selection panel has a conflict of interest with any applicant. It is not anticipated that it will be necessary to hold interviews.
