Acute oncology job planning appendix published

We are pleased to announce the publication of: Acute oncology consultant and SAS doctor job planning, which has been developed by the UK Acute Oncology Society (UKAOS) Consultant Group in conjunction with The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and the Association of Cancer Physicians (ACP) as an appendix to Clinical oncology job planning guidance for consultant and SAS doctors.
Acute Oncology Services (AOS) have evolved since 2009, emphasising the essential clinical and leadership roles of oncologists within urgent cancer care for an aging, complex patient population. The RCR and ACP aim to promote AOS as a recognised subspecialty with formalised job plans, supporting oncologists, including consultants and specialty and associate specialists (SAS) doctors in developing expertise, leadership, and research roles across cancer centres and acute hospital settings.

The creation and dissemination of an acute oncology job planning framework marks the beginning of enhanced support for oncologists seeking to specialise in AOS, equipping them with the expertise and leadership required to advance both service delivery and research across cancer centres and affiliated acute hospital sites.

The RCR extends its gratitude to Dr Saif Ahmad and Dr Kate Young.
