Dr Akash Ganguly
13 August 1974 – 23 September 2025
Dr Akash Ganguly was a multitalented man who had a breadth of interests extending way beyond his day job. Akash qualified with MBBS from Calcutta University in 1998 and after various clinical posts as a junior doctor, completed his training as a radiology specialist registrar in the Mersey Training Scheme. His performance as a trainee was outstanding. He was the first Mersey trainee to tackle all the old style 2A modules (six in total) and pass them at his first attempt, such was his intelligence and drive. He was always up to date as a trainee and consultants would often seek his counsel. On completion of training, he dedicated 15 years to Warrington and Halton Hospitals Trust as a consultant radiologist and to the wider radiological community as a great and willing teacher.

His radiology skills were exceptional and admired, and his clinical opinion highly valued and respected by colleagues inside and outside Radiology and beyond his own department. His knowledge, lateral thinking and pragmatic approach made him a focal point in the department. Constantly driving quality improvement, he also served in managerial and governance roles, most recently as a staff governor at the trust. As a trainer and educator, he has mentored and inspired many through his teaching, whilst also being author to numerous journal articles and books.
In addition to his professional skills, he had multiple creative outlets: he was a prolific writer but also enjoyed painting, music and Japanese anime to name a few. His unbounded energy and enthusiasm would transmit onto the cricket pitch, both as a player and amateur cricket performance analyst.
Akash had a warm, charismatic and modest nature; affable and engaging with everyone he met. Everyone who met Akash personally and professionally was very fond of him - he was a lovely guy and great company. He was a dedicated family man and was committed to providing unconditional love and security for his wife, two children and extended family. His absence will be deeply felt by family, friends and colleagues around the world, and by everyone who was fortunate enough to have their professional or personal life touched by him.
