Clinical Radiology Artificial Intelligence (CRAI) Faculty Lead

The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has recently launched a cutting-edge learning programme designed for radiologists and allied healthcare professionals at any stage of their career. The innovative approach of the course combines interactive e-learning modules with a dynamic workshop, providing a comprehensive exploration of AI’s role in radiology, and giving participants the opportunity to delve into key concepts, learn practical techniques and engage in stimulating discussions.

To support the next stage of development of our CRAI modules we are seeking a lead for our CRAI faculty, a key role overseen by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR). As the driving force behind CRAI, you will recruit and lead our subject matter experts in creating, planning, and delivering educational resources that support ongoing learning in radiology and artificial intelligence, for UK and global audiences.

What’s involved?

The CRAI Faculty Lead is responsible for all clinical activities relating to the CRAI blended learning programme including:

  • Working with the RCR Learning team to support ongoing delivery of both in person and online periodic (based on demand, but at least twice a year) iterations of CRAI modules 1 and 2, continuously evaluating and evolving to meet learning needs.
  • Working with RCR learning team and CRAI faculty to develop and deliver CRAI modules 3 and 4 for first delivery in early 2025.
  • Working with RCR learning team and CRAI faculty to develop and deliver CRAI modules 5 and 6 for delivery in late 2025.
  • Working with RCR Learning team and CRAI faculty to develop and deliver all modules as part of the core annual programme from 2025 onwards, including ensuring a review of quality and delivery.
  • Lead and co-ordinate faculty to create and review the e-learning content which supports the blended learning programme.
  • Working with the RCR Learning team and CRAI faculty to develop the CRAI modules into a leading global initiative.  
  • Regular update meetings / calls with RCR Learning team supporting with strategy, operational delivery and/or evaluation of the course. 
  • Chairing the annual faculty meeting to discuss future CRAI activities.
  • Ongoing recruitment and succession planning of the CRAI faculty, supported by the RCR Learning team.
  • Undertaking other duties relevant to the scope of the role in line with the faculty and RCR strategic priorities.

With administrative support from RCR Learning, you will recruit and lead a new faculty to help you deliver the activities outlined above.

What support will I receive from RCR staff and other Officers?

The CRAI Faculty Lead is supported by CRAI faculty members, as well as staff from the RCR Learning team who can provide expertise in developing, marketing, and delivering educational resources and will help you with all aspects of your lead role. The role holder will have a dedicated staff point of contact within the team.

What’s the commitment?

This role will commence 1 July 2024 and will typically serve a term of three years which may be extended on the invitation of the Vice-President (CR) by up to one year.  

We do not provide direct remuneration for this post but offer financial assistance with travel and subsistence. It is estimated that no less than 15 days of time annually will be required to support the role. 

Who is eligible to stand?

To put your name forward for the role of CRAI Faculty Lead, you need to be a Fellow of the College by examination (no minimum period as a Fellow is required), resident in the United Kingdom, hold a current licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) and be in active clinical practice.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Evidence of knowledge and experience of radiology and artificial intelligence.
  • Strong understanding of how to identify, influence and engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) to contribute to ongoing educational resources in radiology and artificial intelligence.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including strong time management skills.
  • Expertise and experience in supporting the drafting of new educational resources, alongside evaluation of developed courses.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in practice
