Clinical radiology curriculum

The curriculum aims to meet patient and service need by ensuring that trainees develop the specialty-specific capabilities necessary to become a consultant radiologist.

Aim

The curriculum provides a training framework describing the standard required to achieve a certificate of completion of training (CCT) and the expected levels of progress throughout training.

A document mapping the 2021 curriculum outcomes to the competences in the 2016 curriculum is available to support trainees in identifying how activities completed under the 2016 curriculum provide evidence of progress against the capabilities in practice in the new curriculum. In May 2023, the GMC approved some minor changes to the clinical radiology curriculum, which are included in the updated document.

Information on the nuclear medicine curriculum can be found on the JRCPTB website, including guidance for those transferring to the 2021 nuclear medicine curriculum, which will provide dual CCTs in nuclear medicine and clinical radiology.

Assessment

Assessment for clinical radiology and interventional radiology comprise a package of formative workplace based assessments (WBA) and summative examination of knowledge and radiological skills.
