Appointed member, CR Strategic Training Board

The Strategic Training Board (STB) sets strategy and guides standard setting, to support expansion of the UK clinical radiology workforce to meet needs identified in the RCR workforce census, both domestically and globally.

Key responsibilities and requirements

Is this the role for you?

If you are interested and involved in training, assessment, and education, this could be the role for you. The Strategic Training Board allows you to shape training for the current and future generation and engage in key areas such as the curriculum, recruitment, examinations, training standards and quality assurance.

Members will be expected to contribute to the practical work of the Board. Most short-term work is done remotely by email. It is a vital role at an exciting time in medical education with changes to examinations and new ways of recognising distinct areas of practice. The RCR is seeking to expand diversity on all its Boards and committees and actively encourages those from all backgrounds, including underrepresented groups to apply for this role.

Eligibility and term of office

The appointed member will be a Fellow or member of the College, resident in the United Kingdom and at the time of his or her application is in active clinical practice in the NHS and holds a current licence to practise.

The appointment will be for a period of three years, at which time the role will be reviewed, and the post-holder may be re-appointed for a further period of three years if appropriate and agreed.

Time commitment

Contributors at the RCR play a vital role in supporting the College’s initiatives and driving its progress. Although our Contributor positions are undertaken on a voluntary basis, each role has optimal impact when Contributors dedicate sufficient time to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them.

This is a three-year role, and the main responsibilities are to attend three Strategic Training Board meetings each year each lasting two hours. The expectation is that there will usually be two virtual and one in-person meeting held at the College. In addition, you will need to allow time to read papers in advance and to engage through the year by remote discussion between meetings. There may also be an opportunity to get involved in a short-term working party or project group, reporting to the Board, from time to time.
