Dr Robin Proctor elected as our new Medical Director, Professional Practice, Clinical Radiology

We’re pleased to announce that Dr Robin Proctor has been elected as the incoming Medical Director, Professional Practice (MDPP), Clinical Radiology. Dr Proctor will officially start from 1 September 2024 when he will take over from the current MDPP Dr Raman Uberoi.

Dr Proctor will lead on Clinical Radiology Faculty activities that guide and support our Fellows and members throughout their practising careers.

He is a consultant radiologist with a special interest in musculoskeletal radiology who works in the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. He has held several leadership roles there including Deputy Medical Director during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Proctor said of his appointment: “I am excited to be elected to the role of Medical Director, Professional Practice, and I am looking forward to working with colleagues in the RCR to continue to support our Fellows and members in their professional practice.

“I'm also eager to hear from our Fellows and members to ensure we best represent their needs and interests.”

Dr Proctor’s broad background in medicine includes several years as a General Practitioner and has been a Fellow of the RCR since 2008. He is currently a member of the RCR Equivalence Committee and is the RCR representative for the national New Hospital Programme, having previously been a subject matter expert for diagnostic imaging within that programme for NHS England.

Previously he was on the RCR Faculty Board for Clinical Radiology and was secretary of the British Society of Skeletal Radiologists. Dr Proctor has written numerous books that aid preparation for the FRCR examination in radiology. He was also involved in setting up the ‘Global Radiology’ project.

Dr Stephen Harden, Vice-President, Clinical Radiology, said: “I would like to send my sincere congratulations to Robin on his election. Robin will bring significant experience as a departmental clinical lead and deputy medical director of his trust.

“He has a long history of working for the RCR, including his role on the CR equivalence committee, leading the Global Fellows Programme and having been an elected member of the CR Faculty Board. I very much look forward to working with him in our CR Officers’ team.”
