Key responsibilities and requirements
Members of the Academic Committee are expected to contribute to discussion on all matters relating to academic development and radiological research and to assist the RCR in encouraging and fostering research in Clinical Radiology. Responsibilities include:
Advising on:
matters relating to academic development and radiological research.
methods by which the RCR can encourage and foster research in radiological practice and education.
methods by which the RCR can increase the number of research-active and academic radiologists within the UK and the quality of their research.
ways to support resident and consultant radiologists commencing or developing a research-based career.
developing proposals to provide research career guidance, training in research techniques and opportunities for networking amongst research-active radiologists, residents, academics and consultants.
Members of the committee will also be tasked with making recommendations as to those individuals/teams to be considered for awards and grants. This includes:
defining criteria and terms of reference for RCR and joint-RCR Research Fellowships.
exploring arrangements for joint funding of research with other appropriate research funding bodies, with approval from the Faculty Leadership Team.
determining the recipients of research grants, Fellowships and PhDs through a loan or in collaboration with other parties as appropriate.
appointing the Roentgen Professor.

Eligibility and Term of Office
All clinical members of the committee shall hold a current licence to practise, be in active clinical practice at the time of their appointment and be members and Fellows of the College. To apply for this role, you must be engaged in active research.
Appointed members serve for a term of three years and may be appointed for one further term of up to three years by mutual agreement of the Chair, the Vice President and the member.
Commitment and conditions
Contributors at the RCR play an essential role in supporting the College’s strategic initiatives and shaping the direction of the College. Although our Contributor positions are undertaken on a voluntary basis, each role has optimal impact when Contributors dedicate sufficient time to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them.
The main responsibility of Academic Committee members is to attend the three meetings of the Committee each year, to read papers in advance and to contribute to discussions on academic matters.
