Quality Assurance is an essential part of the management of education and training. The GMC requires Colleges to quality assure all aspects of training, notably in the areas of educational delivery and assessment, including examinations.
Annual Specialty Reports
The College submits an Annual Specialty Report (ASR) to the GMC every year. It is a concise summary of education and training in clinical oncology, from the perspective of the College. The ASR focuses on the College role in improving the quality of training for doctors and on concerns identified through our activity. A number of sources of evidence, including the annual GMC trainee survey results, the externality process and reports from training programmes, contribute to the compiling of the report.
Externality
The GMC requires that there is external advice on all the processes of delivery, assessment and evaluation of specialty training. The RSA’s play a key role through two principle activities:
External Adviser - RSAs are asked to attend the ARCPs of a different Deanery to the one in which they work to provide an independent but specialty specific perspective. RSAs submit an External Adviser Report form to the College from each of these visits. The form includes guidance notes for the RSA. Form available on the right.
Training Programme Evaluation - This process is currently under review.
Approval of new posts
Approval of new posts is ultimately given by the GMC on the basis of applications made by the relevant deanery using the forms available on the GMC's website. However, in considering these, the GMC requires formal confirmation that the College supports the application. To facilitate this the regional adviser should submit the application form to qatraining@rcr.ac.uk
- Form 1: Application for support of a new training post(s) within an existing approved training location (hospital or department)
- Form 2: Application for support of a new training location (hospital or department) within an existing training programme (scheme)
- Any plans with regard to the creation of a new training programme (scheme) should be discussed with the Training team at an early stage.
