Dr Udara Kularatne
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dr Udara Kularatne, Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at the University Hospital of North Midlands, on 18 October 2026 in an Oxford hospital following an unexpected cardiac event.
Udara, fondly known as Udi among his large circle of friends and colleagues, was a much-loved and highly respected individual who touched many lives.
He studied medicine at University of Cambridge, graduating with an overall distinction in his final examinations. Udi completed his resident training at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and the Nottingham Training Scheme, and was Fellowship trained in musculoskeletal radiology at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry.
Udi led a remarkable and multifaceted life. A former banker, an accomplished radiologist, an author and a talented Sinhalese lyricist, he was a man of many interests and achievements. He was also a member of the College’s Professional Practice Board (Clinical Radiology).
Originally from Sri Lanka, Udi passed away at the age of just 53, leaving behind his family in Sri Lanka, including his ageing parents. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time.
May Udi’s soul rest in peace. He will be dearly missed by his friends and colleagues.
