Policy on geopolitical issues and conflicts
We live in very tumultuous times with a number of devastating conflicts worldwide. These are issues which many of us will feel very strongly about, which many of us might have very personal links to, and which we as a College are increasingly being asked to comment on.
The Royal College of Radiologists is a medical royal college which exists to support and lead our specialties, and everything that we do needs to be seen through this lens. It is also a registered charity and as such it cannot undertake political activities that do not support its core purpose.
We recognise that many of these issues are very emotive; however, our expertise is as medical doctors and our personal views, however strong, are just that. As a membership body, our mandate is to support and advance our specialties; this is where we add meaningful value.
We recognise that silence should not be mistaken for indifference, and that individual members may hold strong personal views on these issues, reflecting their own experiences, values, and circumstances.
