Expert panel recommendations for radiotherapy treatment for vulval cancer guidance launched

We’re pleased to announce the publication of ‘The Royal College of Radiologists expert panel recommendations for radiotherapy treatment for vulval cancer’.

This is a relatively rare cancer and radiotherapy planning is complex and highly specialised. The RCR audit on vulval radiotherapy in 2020 demonstrated wide variation especially in target definitions, margins and dose. In response, the RCR convened a panel of experts led by Dr Alex Stewart who have developed this detailed and comprehensive contouring atlas.

Dr Nicky Thorp, Medical Director, Professional Practice, Clinical Oncology, said: "I anticipate that this document will become an essential reference for all those responsible for delivering radiotherapy for vulval cancer, ultimately leading to improved tumour control while reducing treatment toxicities.”
