Standards for the communication of radiological reports and fail-safe alert notification
Timely and effective communication of reports to those who treat patients is essential. Failure to communicate critical, urgent or significant findings can have very serious consequences for patients. This document aims to outline responsibilities for each of those involved in the radiology reporting system, and makes recommendations on the development of fail-safe back-up mechanisms.
This publication replaces Standards for the communication of critical, urgent and unexpected significant radiological findings, Second edition, which has now been withdrawn.
