Professor David Hansell awarded RCR Gold Medal

Professor David Hansell MD FRCP FRCR FRSM has been awarded the prestigious RCR Gold Medal.

The Gold Medal is awarded by Council upon the recommendation of the Honours Committee to an esteemed Fellow of the College who has made a significant contribution in their field whether in the UK or overseas. 

Professor Hansell is a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London and Professor of Thoracic Imaging, National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London.  He has a particular interest in HRCT of diffuse lung diseases with over 300 papers listed on PubMed.  He has been president of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (2005) and the Fleischner Society (2012).  In 2013 he was appointed to the National Institute of Health Senior Investigator Faculty - an award made to only 200 clinical academics across the UK. He is a member of several international working groups responsible for drawing up recommendations for the classification, investigation and management of lung diseases.

Any Fellow of the College may submit a nomination to the Honours Committee with a statement indicating the reasons for the nomination together with brief biographical details of their nominee’s major achievements.

Nominations should be sent by email to the Governance and Council Officer to be presented to the Honours Committee prior to their Annual Meeting in October 2016.
