Following the success of our popular 2019 scheme, we are delighted to announce that our 2020 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) in Clinical Oncology have opened for applications.
The scheme was launched last year to offer medical students a unique opportunity to undertake a research project in clinical oncology. These Fellowships saw students from across the UK embark on a broad range of projects, nurturing the next generation of academic clinical oncologists.
Five awards are available, with funding to support students to complete an eight-week Fellowship over the summer. Successful applicants will benefit from mentorship from senior academics and clinicians, while gaining an insight into the field of clinical oncology and academic research.
Dr Chris Jones, Clinical Oncology Academic Committee trainee representative, said:
“The SURF scheme was very positively received last year, with a high a number of applications. We’ve been really pleased with how much the first cohort of students have benefitted from participating and it’s good to see that they are presenting their research at a number of meetings, including at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology congress. We’re looking forward to reading this year’s applications and supporting another cohort of students to realise the many advantages of this scheme.”
Medical students enrolled in both undergraduate- and graduate-entry programmes in the UK are encouraged to apply by Tuesday 31 March 2020.
