STFC 21st Century Challenge Network+ in Cancer Diagnosis Launch Event

Funding has recently been provided by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to establish a 21st Century Challenge Network+ in Cancer Diagnosis.  The Network+ will host multidisciplinary challenge-led workshops to engage key stakeholders and provide funding for scoping studies and proof of concept projects to translate STFC innovations into clinical impact, more details of which can be found at www.stfccancerdiagnosis.org. The network aims to (1) build a multidisciplinary community drawn from STFC and non-STFC researchers, hospitals and the healthcare industry, (2) develop novel and accessible technologies that promote earlier cancer diagnosis and more accurate staging in secondary care, (3) fund proof of concept projects that can be developed into larger challenge-led multidisciplinary proposals and (4) provide training opportunities, placements and travel grants for early career researchers.

The launch event will take place at the University of Liverpool 9th September 2019.  There will be an opportunity to hear from expert speakers about example clinical challenges to be addressed on the four network+ challenge themes of (1) early diagnosis, (2) precision and quantitative imaging, (3) multimodal techniques and (4) data science techniques applied to imaging and bioinformatics.  There will also be case study speakers from the STFC communities who will share their experiences of translating STFC expertise to healthcare challenges.  Details of the first round of funding will be announced at the event, as will information on future multidisciplinary workshops.
