Leicester Post-Mortem CT for Radiologists

CPD points:

This course provides 20 CPD credits in accordance with the CPD Scheme of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Course Overview:

Post-mortem CT (PMCT) has been in use Worldwide since the early 2000’s and the technique is increasing in popularity in the UK. It is now routinely used as an alternative to invasive autopsy in the investigation of natural death.

This 3-day course will provide the experienced radiologist with the necessary skills to commence PMCT reporting. The majority of the course involves case-based discussion using OsiriX workstations (with no more than 2 to a workstation).

Learning Objectives:

To understand the normal post-mortem changes in body tissues

To be aware of the process of decomposition and how it manifests on PMCT

To gain experience of the adjuncts to plain CT: targeted coronary angiography and post-ventilation CT and review pathology of the heart and coronary arteries

To review common causes of death including differentiating natural and unnatural deaths

To discuss how PMCT fits into the medicolegal framework for the investigation of unexpected death.

Why Leicester?

Leicester has been at the forefront of PMCT research for 15 years, producing multiple publications, notably the Lancet paper in 2017 (Rutty et al.) demonstrating PMCT with the addition of targeted coronary angiography, has a sensitivity of 92%.

We have the largest case mix of PMCT with autopsy in the UK currently.

Our centre runs a successful NHS lead Coronial service as well as pioneering the use of CT in forensic and traumatic deaths.

Target Audience:

Consultant Radiologists who wish to extend their clinical practice to include post-mortem imaging or set up a local PMCT service

Cost:

£ 800
