An essential part of the College
The Specialty Training Board oversees all pre-CCT aspects of College members’ careers. It is also responsible for implementing any changes to training and examination policy. It plays an important role in ensuring that the value of the College to trainees, as well as changes to training and examinations, are communicated Fellow and members.
Is this the role for you?
If you are interested and involved in training, assessment and education this could be the role for you. Being involved with the Specialty Training Board allows you to shape training for the future generation of clinical radiologists, and to engage with trainees and junior doctors. It’s a very important role at an exciting time in medical education with new curricula being written, changes to examinations and new ways of recognising distinct areas of practice.
What’s the commitment?
This is a three-year role and the main responsibilities are to attend three Specialty Training Board meetings each year each lasting between two and three hours. While the College sets great store on the value of face-to-face meetings, you can attend remotely using video-conferencing. In addition, you will need to allow time for travel, to read papers in advance and potentially resolve issues by remote discussion between meetings. There may also be opportunity to get involved in a short-term working party or project group, reporting to the Board, from time to time.
Who’s eligible to stand?
To put your name forward, you need to be a Fellow of the College (no minimum period as a Fellow is required), resident in the United Kingdom, on the roll of the Faculty, hold a current licence to practise with the GMC and be in active clinical practice. The term of office starts on 12 September 2018.
How to apply
Please contact the Training Policy and Projects Administrator with a short CV and brief statement outlining your relevant experience and how you can contribute to the work of the Board before 6 July 2018.
