Location: Central London (initially home-based)
Salary: £58,379 per annum plus excellent benefits
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Contractual status: Permanent

The RCR is a great place to work. At the forefront of the health agenda, our members diagnose and treat cancer, heart disease, stroke and more, while leading on innovations including AI, skills mix and community diagnostic hubs. As Covid recedes and the cancer backlog rises up the agenda, our members’ work and views have never been more important. The Communications Directorate is newly formed, and a recent restructure has created two new teams – External Affairs, and Marketing and Digital.

The External Affairs team will be focused on building the RCR’s influence, authority and impact across government and the health sector. Bringing together policy, public affairs, campaigns and media, the external affairs team will drive the agenda for change in our key policy areas, ensuring that our positions on workforce, AI, skills mix, and more are heard and listened to by decision makers; that the RCR is seen as the authority on all things radiology and oncology; and that our positions are clear and unequivocal.

The Head of External Affairs will lead a talented team of five professionals. With deep experience in policy, public affairs and media work, you will be able to set a clear strategy, securing buy in from members and staff. An analytical thinker who is willing and able to roll up your sleeves, you will build an external affairs engine with efficient, effective processes and a clear direction of travel. Politically astute, media savvy and able to crystallise complex issues into simple asks, you will be someone who can join the dots and create real impact.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you then you can find out more about the Head of External Affairs role, the RCR, and how to apply by visiting the RCR website and reading the Head of External Affairs candidate pack.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 1 August 2021. First stage interviews are due to take place on Thursday 5 August, with final stage interviews scheduled for Thursday 12 August.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic the interviews for this role will be held remotely via video conference. As part of our emergency response to Covid-19 it is likely the successful candidate will work remotely for a period of time before we complete a phased return back to the office.
