In 2014 the Clinical Oncology Faculty of the RCR worked with their medical oncology colleagues at the Royal College of Physicians to compile a curriculum, which provided a basis for undergraduate non-surgical oncology teaching in the UK.
The aim of the curriculum is to facilitate medical students gaining the competencies required to enable them to manage patients with cancer appropriately when they graduate. The curriculum is available to download and medical schools are encouraged to use it when designing their teaching in this area.
The Undergraduate Oncology Steeing Group, working again with medical oncology colleagues, is currently in the process of updating this curriculum to bring it into line with the GMC's latest iteration of "Outcomes for Graduates".
Once the new version is complete it will be circulated to all medical schools and it is hoped that it will inform future oncology teaching.
