As part of the RCR’s work to develop and support our members and Fellows, we have run a mentoring programme since 2014 for new consultants as well as those taking on new career responsibilities. In 2021, we welcomed final-year trainees to the programme, endeavouring to provide broader support to the transition from registrar to consultant.

We are looking for committed and enthusiastic people to join this national programme, by attending a free online training session for mentors and mentees with our trainer Alexis Hutson. This workshop will give you an introduction to the Developmental Model of Mentoring to help you get the most out of your mentoring relationship. The workshop is participatory and focussed on developing techniques, learning best practice and discussing the opportunities and challenges of being in a mentoring relationship, as well as networking with other people in the scheme.

As a result of this two-hour virtual workshop, you will have a clearer understanding of:
•             The nature of developmental mentoring and key behaviours.
•             The roles of mentor / mentee and how to establish and manage expectations.

After the training, you will be offered a match; this match lasts for a 12 month period and we suggest 6 one-hour meetings over this period. The RCR Mentoring Team will check in with you throughout the match to offer support and answer any queries.

Please be aware that we are limited to a maximum of 12 delegates per session so will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
