President: Dr Jane Barrett

Jane Barrett qualified in medicine from Bristol University in 1977.  She moved to the Thames Valley in 1980 and trained part-time in Clinical Oncology in Reading, Oxford and Paris.  She was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Berkshire Cancer Centre Reading in 1991 and has been the Director of the Cancer Centre in Reading and the Medical Director of Thames Valley Cancer Network.

Over the last 15 years, Jane has worked closely with the National Cancer Director for England, Professor Sir Mike Richards, and has played a leading role in cancer Improving Outcomes Guidance and serving on the National Radiotherapy Advisory Group and its subsequent Implementation Group (NRIG) and on the National Chemotherapy Advisory Group.

Jane has had a long association with The Royal College of Radiologists having been Chair of the Junior Radiologists’ Forum (when it served both specialties of Clinical Oncology and Clinical Radiology) and serving on most of the Clinical Oncology Boards and Committees as well as Council over the last 25 years.  She became Registrar of the Faculty of Clinical Oncology in 2006 and then Dean in 2008. Jane is the first President from the Faculty of Clinical Oncology to be elected by the Fellowship and the first woman President from the Faculty.
