The Clinical Oncology Information Network (COIN) was a project sponsored by the Faculty of Clinical Oncology of The Royal College of Radiologists and the Joint Collegiate Council for Oncology (JCCO); it was funded by the NHS Executive of the Department of Health and by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). It completed its work in 2000.
The main objective of COIN was to promote effective clinical practice in oncology. This section provides more information about the project's aims, about the evidence-based guidelines produced and about the clinical workstation arm of the project. The Board of the Faculty of Clinical Oncology is grateful to Dr Stephen Karp for his work in directing the project and to all those who were involved in it.
Evidence-based guidelines were produced on lung, breast, testicular and prostate cancers, as well as on generic radiotherapy and chemotherapy. These have now been withdrawn. For information on the processes behind the guidelines, click
