Clinical Radiology

1. To advise the Faculty on all matters relating to the use of radionuclides for diagnosis.

2. To advise the Faculty on the nuclear medicine content of training programmes in the pre-Fellowship and post-Fellowship periods and on the Radionuclide Radiology content of the Fellowship examinations, and to relate this to European Standards of training in Nuclear Medicine.

3. To advise the Faculty on matters concerning consultant appointments in Clinical Radiology with Radionuclide Radiology as a sub-specialty.

4. To identify and publicise new radiotracer and unsealed source radiotherapy techniques which will have an impact on clinical radiology

5. To be informed of and advise on relevant policies involving the Department of Health and other agencies throughout the UK.

6. To liaise with the appropriate sub-committees and working parties of the Faculty.

7. The sub-committee will be accountable to the Clinical Radiology Faculty Board.

8. The sub-committee will report regularly to the Clinical Radiology Faculty Board on its work.

Membership
9. There shall be not more than six appointed members of the Sub-Committee who should report to the Sub-Committee on the work of other relevant committees and groups within and outside the College on which they serve. The members shall include:

  • a Radionuclide Radiology medicine specialist from a clinical radiology background
  • a nuclear medicine specialist with a physician background
  • a representative from the Intercollegiate Standing Committee on Nuclear Medicine
  • a representative of the Clinical Oncology Faculty Board.

10. There shall be not more than three co-opted members to represent specific areas of practice not otherwise represented on the sub-committee.

11. All members are appointed by the Dean, Clinical Radiology in consultation where necessary with the Chair of the Sub-Committee and/or others as appropriate.

12. All clinical members of the sub-committee shall be in active clinical practice at the time of their appointment and would normally be expected to remain in active clinical practice throughout the term of their membership.

13. Members serve for terms of three years renewable for a further term of up to three years and no more.

14. The membership should reflect the ethnic diversity of the profession as far as possible and where appropriate the work being done, also the geographical spread of members and the sub-specialisation of clinical radiologists.

15. Ex-officio members will be: the President, the Treasurer and all Clinical Radiology Officers.

16. Where appointed, an Elected Member of Faculty Board nominated by the Dean will be co-opted to the sub-committee in a liaison capacity.

17. Members will need to abide by any stated or implied confidentiality that attaches to the work of the sub-committee during or after any period of membership.

18. Members will need to comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 as regards processing and disclosure of any personal data where it is made available to them as part of the work of the sub-committee.

Chair
19. The Chair will usually serve for a term of three years renewable for a further term of up to three years and no more. A member who is subsequently appointed as Chair of the sub-committee will not have counted against his or her term of office as Chair any period of service as member of the sub-committee.

20. The duties of the Chair will include:

  • Chairing all meetings
  • Ensuring that the Terms of Reference are observed
  • Engaging all members of the sub-committee in the work being done
  • Reporting to the Dean, Clinical Radiology where a member fails to be active or fails to attend meetings so that the Dean can form a view as to whether a member should be invited to vacate his or her place
  • Ensuring regular reports are made to the Faculty Board, liaising as appropriate with any Elected Member of Faculty Board appointed to the sub-committee in a liaison role, and attending Faculty Board when invited to do so by the Dean
  • Ensuring that relevant matters are drawn to the attention of the Dean, Clinical Radiology, another Clinical Radiology Officer, the Faculty Board or the Clinical Radiology Officers’ Group as appropriate
  • Ensuring that links and liaison are established with other relevant College bodies and/or Special Interest Groups
  • Reviewing the work of the sub-committee at least once during his or her term of office and making any recommendations to the Dean, Clinical Radiology
  • Acting as media spokesperson for the College in respect of matters within the remit of the sub-committee at the request of the President or Faculty Officer.

21. In the absence of the Chair, a chair of the meeting will be elected from the professional members present.

22. The Chair will be an ex-officio member of the Faculty Board.

Operation
23. There will normally be up to three meetings in each College year.

24. The quorum shall be not less than three appointed members.

25. The sub-committee will not express any opinion or make any statement publicly or to the media that is held out to be a view from the College without first consulting and agreeing the approach with the Dean, Clinical Radiology

26. The sub-committee will not send representatives to other bodies or meetings on behalf of the College unless that has been agreed in advance with the Dean, Clinical Radiology.
